Articles/Motivation

Found this blog article today.  It rung true for me.  I seem to be either ALL or NOTHING!  Took me years to learn I don't have to beat myself up over the "failure" and give up.  Each minute, hour and day are chances to start over and make ourselves proud.  We can't change the past but we can direct our future!

12 Diet Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

1. Relying on Crash Diets

Crash Dieting teaches your body to metabolize slowly.  After finishing the diet you increase your calories and still metabolize at the slower rate causing you to gain back the lost weight plus.

2. Skipping Breakfast

Seems like a fast/easy way to cut calories, however  you can fall into a continuing hunger you just can satisfy.

3. Losing Track of Your Snacks

It's easy to lose track of the little nibbles during the day.
A chip here, a grape there, those calories & portions
can add up fast.

4. Not Snacking at All

Eating thoughtful and planned snacks can keep your body fueled and keep from hanging onto unnecessary calories.

5. Loading Up on Low-Fat

Just remember: Low Fat isn't the same as Low Calorie.

6. Sipping Too Many Calories

We tend to forget to look at the calories in our drinks.  Soda, Coffee & Alcohol can add a lot of empty calories.  Watch your portions or substitute for a piece of fruit instead.

7. Drinking Too Little Water

"Water is essential for burning calories. If you let yourself get dehydrated, your metabolism drags -- and that means slower weight loss."

8. Ditching Dairy

Some research has shown that the body will burn more fat when it is full of calcium.

9.  Taking the Drive-Through Bait

Although convenient, you may fall into the trap of temptation for high fat/calorie items.  The drive through can also become habit forming.

10. Weighing Yourself Every Day

Weighing yourself daily can be frustrating and hinder your progress.  Stick with a weekly weigh-in to give your body time for natural fluctuations.

11. Setting Unrealistic Goals

Set goals that are reasonable.  Celebrate and set new goals to reach the long term.  If unsure of what your goal should be ask a coach, dietician or other professional.

12. Avoiding Exercise

Not exercising places the burden of weight loss on your diet. Become more active and be able to eat more of the things you like -- and still lose weight.
